Alaska Airlines Faces Potential $700 Million Loss, Cuts 200 Jobs

Alaska Airlines plans to cut approximately 200 office and management positions as rising fuel costs put pressure on its financial performance. The airline warned that it could record a loss of up to $700 million in 2026, potentially marking its first annual adjusted pretax loss outside the pandemic since 2003.

The airline expects its annual fuel expenses to exceed initial projections by approximately $1.8 billion, with jet fuel prices nearly doubling. Despite these challenges, Alaska Airlines reported a 14% year-over-year revenue increase in the third quarter.

The company has not announced any route reductions and continues to pursue its international expansion plans, including new flights from Seattle to Athens, Paris, Osaka and Tahiti in 2027.
